Returning your item

We are happy to offer our UK customers peace of mind when placing an order by providing Free Returns* with Royal Mail. Now you can order in confidence, safe in the knowledge that should you receive a damaged or incorrect item, you don't have to worry about the cost of returning the goods. Simply notify us within 14s day of receipt and we'll arrange for the item to be exchanged or returned for a refund

The Royal Mail returns service allows you to drop your parcel off at any one of their branches in the UK. When you drop your parcel off you will receive a receipt with tracking details for your parcel so you know where it is and when we receive it.

Please note

Weight/size restrictions mean larger items such as guitar cases and gig bags are unable to be processed using Royal Mail returns. In this instance we will arrange for a courier to collect directly from you.

*If you choose to return your item simply because it is unwanted we are unable to pay for the return postage.

    Can you pre- drill your bodies to fit my tremolo?

    I’m afraid that even if you bought the trem from us it’s not something we’d do. When fitting a trem you really need the neck to be fitted first. That way you can add the top and bottom E strings to the trem, and then fix them to the machine heads. Then you can drop the trem into the cavity and move it around to make sure the string run parallel to the sides of the neck. It’s also a good idea t have the scratchplate on (not screwed down, but just placed on top of the body), just to make sure the trem sits far enough back so as not to touch it

    Can you pre-drill mounting holes into the neck for me?

    We do not pre-drill necks, simply because we can't guarantee that the holes would line up perfectly with your body. They're easy to drill though.

    Just put the neck into the pocket (make sure it’s pushed right to the back of the neck pocket) and then flip the whole thing over. Then use the holes in the body as a guide for the drill. I use a 2mm drill bit and only drill a few mm into the neck. I then insert the screw and let that do most of the work. This ensures a nice tight fit when the screw is tightened.

    Can you ship Aerosols internationally?

    Yes we can, but only to ceartain countries within Europe. Becasue nitro aerosols are classed as a hazardous substance it can only be transported by land. This means that we can only ship to mainland Europe, and some countries are still off limits.

    What size truss rod wrench do I need for my guitar?

    There are so many different guitar models it’s impossible to keep track of what size fits what guitar.

    I've seen bodies and necks cheaper elsewhere online. Why should I buy from you?

    There are many sites offering necks and bodies for sale on the internet, we even supply some of them. When it comes to necks and bodies it's all about the quality of the woods and the construction. Our suppliers use only high quality North American hardwoods such as ash, swamp ash, maple, rosewood & ebony. All our bodies are a 2 piece construction (many cheaper bodies are 3, sometimes 4 pieces) and our necks are hand made and finished to the very highest standards, with all frets dressed, levelled and polished to perfection. You can be assured that any neck we send out will be ready to bolt straight onto your guitar body, no guitar tech assistance necessary!

    How do I fit a bridge/tremolo correctly?

    This is our most frequently asked question! The answer is relatively simple:

    • Attach your neck to the guitar body, if you have not already done so
    • Place the tremolo/bridge roughly in the correct posion on the body (do not screw it in place just yet!)
    • If the project is a new build it is always worth placing the scratchplate on the body as well, just to ensure that everything fits properly.
    • Attach the top and bottom E stings to the bridge and machine heads
    • Add a little tension to the strings and position the bridge/trem so that the two strings run parallel with the fretboard
    • Mark the positions for the two outermost screw holes
    • Drill your pilot holes and you're done...Easy!

    Potentiometers - Which should I use, and why?

    The first thing to consider when choosing pots is whether you want to use Linear pots (Alpha A) or Logarithmic pots (Alpha B)

    Linear pots (Alpha B) give a true representation of the output, (so 1 on the dial is 10% of the output, 5 is 50% and 10 is 100%). This means they’re a good all purpose pot that can be used on both tone and volume.

    Logarithmic pots (alpha A or Audio Taper) offer very little control from 1 - 5 (jumping for 0% to 60 or 70% very quickly). As a tone pot their quite handy when you consider that, from 5 to 10, your covering less ground, giving you much more control over your sound. Considering very few of us roll the tone down past 5, the trusty Logarithmic pot still has its uses when fine tuning your sound.

    Fender and Gibson use Logarithmic pots for most of their products (usually CTS) and get good results, so at the end of the day it all comes down to what you prefer from a guitar. More control over the full range, or more control over the top/bottom end.

    250K or 500K? As a quick and easy rule of Thumb, we use this guide.

    500K = bright sounding 250K = warm, vintage sounding

    Problems can arise when you’re running a Humbucker in the same guitar as a Single Coil, but these are the results we've found.

    500K = warm HB, bright SC 250K = muddy HB, warm SC

    Which capacitors should I choose?

    If you’re looking for a cheap and easy way to modify the sound of your guitar then changing the Capacitors is something to consider.

    Below are the most common cap values, as found in both Fender and Gibson guitars

    .022 µf Our personal favourite Cap size, and certainly the most popular. These caps produce a good balance between Bass, Middle and Treble; Plenty of mid range without compromising on the extreme ends of the spectrum. Absolutely perfect for single coils and fitted as standard on almost all Fender Strats.

    .033 µf Giving a slightly fuller sound than the 0.022s, these caps cut out a small amount of the bright tones, but boast a very strong mid range that carries through; great if you’re getting drowned out by the rest of a band.

    .047 µf These are as far as your really want to go with your guitar (or bass). Nearly all the bright top end is gone, leaving behind plenty of bass and middle. Great for full blown distortion. We prefer to use these with Humbuckers, and we recently fitted them to a ’62 Vintage Jazz Bass.

The Collect+ returns service means you can drop your parcel off at one of 5,500 local shops in the UK. Usually these shops are open late and within just 1 mile of your home which means more convenience. When you drop your parcel off you will receive a receipt with tracking details for your parcel so you know where it is and when we receive it.

How long do I have to return my items?

Here at Northwest Guitars we offer a 30 day returns policy that commences upon the day you receive your goods. Within this time you can return your unused/unwanted goods for refund/credit or exchange. Refunds are available up to 14 days from order delivery date, after this and up to 30 days of order receipt a credit to your Northwest Guitars online account is issued. Exchanges are available for the full 30 day period. Please note that goods that are returned after the 30 day period will be returned to you unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Can I return my items?

We will NOT accept returns if;

  • The item has been visibly.
  • The item is marked or dirty in any way.
  • The packaging has been lost, thrown away or damaged.
  • The item has been damaged in return transit due to insufficient packaging.
  • The item is over the 30 day returns period

In the rare circumstance you have received an incorrect item, please inform us within 48 hours of receipt and do not use the item you have received.

My item is faulty. What do I do?

In the unfortunate event that you have received an item you believe to be faulty please check the following steps before returning your goods. We need to be informed of any potential fault within 48 hours of receipt of the goods so please make sure you check over your product as soon as it is received.

If a manual is present please read these thoroughly to ensure correct operation of the product.

If the fault persists please email sales@northwestguitars.co.uk with a description of the fault and your order number. If you could also attach a photo of the problem this could help speed up the process a great deal. Alternatively please call to discuss this with our Customer Service Team on 01744 36 22 96. Please then await further instruction in reply from a member of our sales team. Emails are usually answered within 24 working hours.

How do I return my items?

On the reverse of your invoice you will find a simple returns form that needs to be completed and returned along with your goods. Please note that failure to complete this form may result in delays when processing your return. We would also ask that you do not put any tape or labels directly on to the product packaging as this will deem the product unsaleable. Please cover the original packaging as best you can before applying any tape or labels.

With most items you will receive a free returns label with your order. If for any reason you need to return the unused item you can simply complete the returns form, pack the returns form in the parcel, attach the Collect+ label and drop the package at your nearest Collect+ store (89% of our customers are within 1 mile of a Collect+ store). Where do I send my items?

Orders that are eligible for the Collect+ returns service and are taken to a Collect+ store will automatically come back to us.

Please do not put any tape or labels directly on to the product packaging as this will damage the packaging and cause the product to be unsaleable. In this instance you may be charged for the resulting damage.

How long will it take for my return to be processed?

It can take 2-4 days for your return to be processed once we have received the goods, please allow for this time period before getting in touch. When the return has been processed a member of the returns team will be in touch via phone or email to confirm the action taken. The Collect+ service normally takes 2-5 days for items to get back to us.

In the event that extra payment is required for an exchange a member of the returns team will give you a call to take payment.

If you have requested a refund please allow 72 hours from processing the return for the funds to reach your account. All refunds are credited to the original method used to place the order.

My exchange is urgent! What do I do?

We understand that sometimes an exchange may be urgent. In this case we would recommend placing another order through the website and return the other item back for a full refund.

Can I return my product under warranty?

All products will come with a limited manufacturer warranty, most of the time this information will be with the product. Please check this information as some manufacturers will ask that you contact them directly. In most cases however you would be asked to contact the retailer.

In the event that you feel you can claim under the warranty we would ask that you email us with a description of the issue, your order number and preferably a photograph illustrating the issue.

In some cases we may be required to contact the manufacturer for their expert opinion before a decision is made.

We may also ask that a product is returned to us for inspection and if a fault can be repaired, or damaged part replaced we are obliged to do this and return the product to you.

Please note that footwear that has been used for Skating/Scootering is not covered under warranty. The shoes sold for skating do feature elements to help make them more durable for the sport but they are not impervious to damage caused by grip tape, braking and attempting tricks.

I need to return an item from outside the UK.

Unfortunately we cannot offer free returns on orders outside of the UK. You will need to return any items to the address above at your own cost. However, if you have received an damaged or incorrect item we will refund any shipping costs incurred, if a postage receit can be provided.

How to make Pre Orders

To give you the best possible chance of securing your product, you are able to place a pre-order, doing this will allocate stock to your order.

You will not be charged until the goods are shipped out from our warehouse.

All re-stock dates given have been provided by the UK distributor, but ARE subject to changes beyond our control, we notify all customers in the unlikely event of any changes.

2. Purchase of Goods

2.1 - All orders made by you through www.northwestguitars.co.uk are subject to acceptance by us. In the circumstance we refuse your order, we cannot be held liable to any party.

2.2 - After submitting an order to us we will send you an order acknowledgement email with your order number and details of the goods that you have ordered. Please note this email is an automated acknowledgement and is not an acceptance of your order.

2.3 - Order acceptance and the completion of the contract between you the customer and NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD will take place at the point of order dispatch, unless we have notified you otherwise, or you have cancelled your order in accordance with the terms set out in Section 4 - Cancellations & Returns.

If we do not accept an order, a full refund will be processed.

2.4 - The following are examples of why we may refuse to accept an order:

2.4.1 - We cannot obtain authorisation from the bank or suspect fraud 2.4.2 - If there have been errors/issues with the description of the goods (Section 5) 2.4.3 - If goods are no longer available.

3. Delivery of Goods

Delivery Overview

3.1.1 - If you order an item that is in stock before 2pm on any business day (Mon-Fri) we endeavour to have that order sent out the same business day. This means that your order should be with you in less than 24 hours for mainland UK postcodes. This excludes Weekends, Public Holidays and Bank Holidays. NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD reserve the right to amend delivery estimates at any point in the order process and any such changes will be notified in writing or verbal communication. In some cases, orders of excessive size, weight or value may take longer than the estimated time. We cannot be held responsible for delays in deliveries. NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD will notify you of any such delays.

3.1.2 - In the event of any issue with your order, such as errors in the stock levels, or clerical errors in the order process, we will notify you of a new delivery date, or provide you with the option of an alternate date. We also may deliver some goods in several consignments but will not charge additional carriage for this. NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD will not be liable to any party for items delivered outside the specified delivery estimates.

3.1.3 - All UK deliveries are normally dispatched using our express courier, UK Mail, using their premium next day delivery service. All non-domestic orders will be dispatched using our international courier, UPS. Both methods are classified as an additional service agreement offered by NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD at the following rates outlined in Section 3.2 and Section 3.3.

Delivery to an alternative Address

Orders to an alternative delivery address can be processed if the customer has been authenticated using 3D authentication (i.e. Verified by Visa, Mastercard, Maestro). NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD reserves the right to deliver only to the cardholder's billing address. Orders made by American Express can only be delivered to the Customer's billing address, no exceptions will be made.

3.2 - Cost of delivery

3.2.1 - UK Mainland Customers: The correct shipping charges will be automatically calculated on your shopping basket and additional shipping options can be selected on your shopping basket.

3.3 - Cost of returns

3.3.1 - If you change your mind, you can return your purchase, subject to [Section 4. Cancellation & Returns Policy] in its original condition within 14 days to us for a full refund (minus any costs incurred for the initial dispatching where appropriate [Section 3.2] and any costs incurred by NORTHWEST GUITARS LTDnfor the returning of the order Section [3.3]). Please note that shipping discounts will be removed if your full return or partial return takes your order below the free delivery threshold (this only applies for items that have been sent). Orders which have received discounted shipping (for example, free next day shipping) will have to cover the initial express courier dispatching, normally £6.99.

IMPORTANT: Before returning, please contact Customer Support on 01744 362296 (or via sales@northwestguitars.co.uk) for authorisation and the appropriate returns form as mentioned in [Section 4].

3.3.2 - Refused Delivery Charges Please note that our courier charges us directly for every refused delivery, as such, items that are refused directly by you will be liable for a "Refused Delivery Charge" on top of any other shipping costs outlined by our terms. Our "Refused Delivery Charge" is currently £20.00 per refused delivery.

3.3.3 - Nothing to Collect Charges Please also note that our courier charges us directly for every failed collection, as such, if we arrange a collection using our courier service and the collection fails because you are not at the property when our courier arrives (i.e. you are not there to hand over your goods at the prearranged address), you will be liable to pay a "Nothing to Collect Charge" on top of any other shipping costs outlined by our terms. Our "Nothing to Collect Charge" is currently £15.00 per failed collection.

3.4 - Damaged Goods 3.4.1 - All orders are pre-checked and are well packaged before dispatch. However, in the event of goods arriving damaged, any shipping damage must be reported within 24 hours of receipt. In this event, we will confirm the damage and if a claim is found valid, will collect the goods from you at no charge. A full replacement will be offered, or a full refund in the event that the goods are no longer in stock. We reserve the right to request additional photographic evidence in order to verify such claims.

3.4.2 - At the point of delivery, all goods become the responsibility of you the customer. From this point, you the Customer will be responsible for the safekeeping and correct use of all goods, NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD will not be responsible for any damage or fault arising from incorrect storage or use. The validity and conditions of any refund/return will be affected by any damage considered to be caused through misuse or neglect.

We cannot be held responsible for damages caused by shipping or negligence if reported after 24 hours of the goods being delivered.

3.5 - Scottish Highland Postcodes The following is a list of postcodes that are included in our definition of the Scottish Highlands:

4. Cancellations & Returns

4.1 - Under the conditions outlined in the EU Consumer Rights Directive and in Section 4.2, NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD operates a 14 day cooling-off returns policy for products that are still in their original condition. This allows UK and EU customers to cancel their order up to 14 days after receipt of their goods. If you wish to cancel your order during this 14-day period, please notify us for a returns authorisation in writing by letter or by email at sales@northwestguitars.co.uk. A telephone call is not sufficient without the express written approval from NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD.

4.1.1 - Upon contacting us, we will provide you with an appropriate returns form which must be sent back with your goods. This form will include shipping instructions and an address for the return of your goods. Note: Items returned to the wrong address or without this matching returns form may suffer delays.

4.2 - The right to return goods to us as mentioned in Section 4.1 does NOT apply in the following situations:

  • 4.2.1 - Financed Goods - Goods purchased on finance cannot be returned under the 14-days cooling off period. Financed goods are conditional based sales where the consumer is bound to purchase the goods from the outset but do not own the goods until they have fulfilled all conditions of the contract (typically through complete payment of all financial instalments).
  • 4.2.2 - Special Orders - Any order which has been specified or customized to the customers specifications. This also includes any item which is not typically stocked by NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD and has been ordered in at the request of the customer.
  • 4.2.3 - Health and Safety - any product that has come in contact with a customer's ear or mouth, such as microphones, headphones, earphones or product with a mouthpiece that have been used or where the hygienic seal has been separate or broken.
  • 4.2.4 - Software, Media and CDs - where the packaging has been unsealed (unless the product is faulty) and copyright policies apply, any product registered via digital or physical means becomes immediately exempt for any returns.

4.3 - If you wish to exercise your right to cancel this contract within the cancellation period, you should return the goods to us within 14 days and take reasonable care in doing as detailed in the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU). The risk and cost of returning the goods to us shall be accepted by you unless you have notified us that the goods have arrived damaged or faulty (Section 3.4) and this has been verified by us. If goods are not returned within this period, we will assume that you have withdrawn your right to cancel.

4.4 - As outline in the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), failure to return items in their original condition will result in deducations from your refund or refusal of a return. As a result, we may make deductions to your refund for any diminution in value of the returned goods where the handling of goods has "gone beyond the sort of handling that might reasonably be allowed in a store"

4.5 - Upon cancellation of the contract we will credit your account with a full refund for the goods. Normally refunds are processed the same day if the goods haven't been dispatched or on the day of receiving the goods back, however, in any event, not later than 14 days after receipt of the cancelled goods. If you do not return the goods or do not pay the costs of delivery to us, we shall be entitled to deduct the direct cost of recovering the goods from the amount of the refund.

4.6 - The right to cancel does not apply to orders delivered outside of the European Union.

5. Description of Goods & Pricing

5.1 - All our prices are shown in Pounds Sterling (GBP) and are displayed inclusive of VAT at the current rate of 20%. VAT is payable by all customers within the EU.

5.2 - NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD does not take any responsibility for any import taxes, customs charges or administration fees payable on orders made outside of the European Union zone. It is the customer's responsibility to cover all charges related to Customs and the import of goods.

5.3 - All our prices, descriptions and shipping charges are reviewed regularly and we endeavour to ensure that the prices and the information provided on our website are correct at all times. In the event of an error in the information provided by our website, NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD will notify you of this error immediately. In the event that a price or shipping charge is incorrectly displayed, NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD will offer you the product/service at the correct price, or a full refund. We are not under any obligation to honour an incorrect price.

5.4 - Product images are for illustrative purposes only, NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD cannot be held responsible for differences in the manufacturer's imagery and the actual product.

6. Payment

6.1 - All credit and debit card processing is encrypted and handled securely by Paypal, Stripe & Worldpay. We do not see your card details at any time.

6.2 - We currently accept the following methods of payment online: VISA, VISA Debit, Mastercard, Solo, Maestro, Visa Electron, American Express, Paypal, Bank Transfer in GBP & US Dollar

6.3 - All Euro and US dollars amounts displayed on www.northwestguitars.co.uk are given as a guide only and may differ from the actual amount you pay, which will appear on your bank statement given by your own Bank or Credit Card Company. We cannot accept any responsibility for loss of funds caused by currency fluctuation.

9. Site Usage / Service Access

9.1 - Although we make every effort to ensure our website is available 24 hours a day, we will not be liable if, for any reason, our website is unavailable at any time due to maintenance, system failure or conditions outside our control.

9.2 - From time to time, NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD may link to third party websites to provide the user with third party content, , including but not limited to, videos from youtube, images, comments, reviews or links. NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD does not accept any liability for the suitability or incorrect use of this content and is provided solely as a guide for the customer. If you choose to view any third party content (including visit a 3rd party site or play a video) you do so at your own risk.

9.3 - The use of tools for the purpore of price scanning (either automatically or manually) this website is forbidden without the prior written consent of NORTHWEST GUITARS LTD. Without prior consent, you agree to fines of up to £1000 a day if unauthorised scanning activity is detected.

Unless otherwise stated, the copyright and other intellectual property rights in all material on this website (including without limitation photographs, web designs & implementations, graphical images) are owned by us or our licensors.
